MAIN SPACE

TRUCK’s MAIN SPACE is located at 2009 10 Ave SW in the community of Sunalta, occupying a street level 1319 sq. ft. gallery space. This space is programmed through an annual call for submissions and curated projects initiated by TRUCK’s staff and programming committee.

PARKADE

The PARKADE is a 200 square feet black box, project oriented space perfect for works in process, small installations, and video screenings. Currently this space is programmed on an ongoing basis and we welcome proposals for this space year round, although programming is subject to the availability of resources.

U-HALL

Offering approximately 404 square feet of floor space and 73 linear feet of wall space U-HALL is an affordable venue open to Calgary based artists and arts organizations on a short term basis. Available for whatever you might need: Lectures, Workshops, Classes, Sales, Gatherings, Meetings, Screenings, Performances, Weddings, DIY-exhibitions, Funerals, Bar Mitzvahs, Coven Meetings, etcetera, there are a number of sponsorship opportunities (the waiver of user fees) available for the use of this space subject to our application process. CAMPER

CAMPER (Contemporary Art Mobile Public Exhibition Rig) is a 1975 Dodge Empress motor-home, modified to become a portable public exhibition and project space.  CAMPER’s mandate is to investigate the places where art, the road, education, and recreation meet, and to explore these intersections in an inclusive, participation-oriented manner that fosters public engagement and appreciation of contemporary art practices.

+15 WINDOW

TRUCK’s +15 WINDOW was located along the busy +15 pedestrian walkway system inside Arts Commons, 205 8 Avenue SE. Active from 1992 - 2018, exhibitions in this storefront style window were two months in length and designed to provide artists an alternative space in which to showcase new works and engage a diverse cross section of Calgary’s public.

MAIN SPACE

DEADLINE // ANNUALLY AT THE END OF AUGUST

The MAIN SPACE is open to applications from professional artists only:

  • completed their basic training (or the equivalent)

  • produced an independent body of work

  • presented their work in a professional context

  • maintained an independent professional practice for at least one year.

Undergraduate students currently enrolled in school, college or university are not eligible to apply, however, this restriction only applies to our Main Space and students are welcome to apply to our +15 WINDOW and CAMPER spaces. 

Graduate students are eligible only if they meet TRUCK’s definition of a professional artist.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE:

TRUCK accepts submissions in ELECTRONIC FORMAT ONLY. Please send all written support as a SINGLE PDF FILE. Images must be in JPEG FORMAT. Please email completed submission to programming(at)truck.ca

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. A completed application form (also available for download in Word format)

  2. Proposal (maximum of 1 pages): Clearly describe the proposed exhibition or project. Provide details about your spatial, and material requirements, including equipment needs. Exlain what kind of venue is best suited to your proposed work (gallery, theatre, off-site, public space, etc).

  3. Artist Statement (maximum of 1 page): Contextualizes the work submitted within your artistic practice.

  4. Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 3 pages): Describe your artistic background (e.g. education, grants, scholarships or awards received, professional status, previous exhibitions or performances, commissions, professional memberships, articles, etc.)

  5. Images/Support Material: 10 to 15 JPEG images and/or DVD for video. All images must be numbered and labeled to match the corresponding image list.

  6. Image List

  7. Budget for curatorial projects, touring exhibitions, and proposals for group exhibitions please provide a clear budget of anticipated expenses and related fees for the exhibitions.

Please Note:

Digital images: Should be in JPEG format, 1000px on the longest side at 72 dpi and no larger than 1MB in size. File names should correspond to the image list.

Video: Submit only the material that demonstrates your artistic accomplishments related to the proposed project, and please limit each example to five minutes in length.
