“The chance encounter might seem commonplace but it presents the possibility of gaining greater significance in memory.” Valerie LeBlanc, Intervention / Breaking Loops, Escaping into the Streets, Curator’s essay.
Verbal exchange is one form of communication. The physicality of street encounters also sets up the possibility for other, non-verbal levels of communication to take place. Trust is one of the messages exchanged. The technology sets a formality and creates the presence of ‘another’ through the camera and the monitor.
The MediaPackBoard (MPB) is a project that was planned for several years and was finally put together in the spring of 2005. The idea for this portable screening / performance unit evolved from earlier portable gallery / performance projects. The MPB, started as an individual project and expanded to include other artists and members of its public audience.
The Media Pack Board Performances are a series of interactive live feed presentations that encourage public interaction and inquiry. MPB Earth alters the camera angle from the carrier’s shoulders to a “birds eye view” redirecting the experience of a shared public physical space.
