The Second Story Art Society o/a TRUCK Contemporary Art in Calgary would like to invite our members and community partners to our Annual General Meeting where we will present a year-in-review of our activities, past year's programming, elect and confirm new directors to the board, and review our financials. Hear what we have been up to over the past year and we'll share what is in store for the year to come. New and old Members are welcome!

VAA: Draw More Income: Know Yours Rights | Workshop | May 3, 2017


Please join us for a free workshop with Deborah Carruthers on Wednesday May 3, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the TRUCK Contemporary Art Main Space (2009 10 Ave SW). 

This workshop is presented by Visual Arts Alberta – CARFAC with TRUCK Contemporary Art.

Deborah Carruthers

Deborah Carruthers is a Montreal multidisciplinary artist engaged in a conceptually–based practice. Carruthers has an insatiable curiosity about what makes us tick; the who, what, where, when, why and how. She is a past Executive Board member of CARFAC and currently serves as both the Vice President of RAAV and co-chair of CARCC (Canadian Artist Copyright Collective). 

Creating Science Fiction Objects: A Workshop with Romeo Gongora | Workshop | March 25, 2017


Please join us for a workshop with Romeo Gongora on March 25, 2017 / 2:00 pm in the TRUCK Contemporary Art Main Space (2009 10 Ave SW). His exhibition The Future Behind Us runs March 24 - May 13 / 2017.

Would you like to travel into the future and return to the present to share your knowledge? Creating Science Fiction Objects is a free discussion-led workshop that invites participants of all ages to collectively create objects that explore the themes of Romeo Gongora’s TRUCK Main Space exhibition, The Future Behind Us, including utopia, de-colonization, radical pedagogy, and collective creation. Moderated by the artist, the outcomes of this 90-minute workshop will be included in the exhibition. Participants are invited to bring used objects (plastic bottles, clothes, shoes, etc.) to be transformed over the course of the workshop.

Romeo Gongora

Romeo Gongora (Canada/Guatemala) is an internationally active visual artist. He has collaborated with the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal (Canada), Open School East (England), Rencontres de Bamako (Mali), HISK (Belgium), CCA - Lagos (Nigeria), Festival Belluard (Switzerland), Centre of Art Torun (Poland), Centre Makan (Jordan), Despina (Brazil) and Kin ArtStudio (DRC), among others. Gongora has participated in residencies at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (Netherlands, 2007-08), the Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Germany, 2009), and Acme Studios (England, 2016). In 2009 he published the exhibition catalogue Volkskunsthalle in collaboration with video artist Aernout Mik; Bernhart Schwenk, curator at The Pinakothek in Munich; and Gökce Yurdakul, a sociologist at The Humboldt University of Berlin. In 2016, Gongora was invited to speak at the Media@McGill's international colloquium Aisthesis and the Common: Reconfiguring the Public Sphere, which took place at the Musée d’Art Contemporain de Montréal.
