Artist Book Making Workshop by Also As Well Too

July 24, 2015 to July 24, 2015

ONE NIGHT STAND & Also As Well Too are hosting an artist book making workshop July 24th at 2:00 PM in TRUCK's U-Hall Community Space (Upstairs in our Main Space) as part of their Western Canadian Tour called Wandering Albatross.

"Artist books are still, curiously, a pretty small field of study and practice in the art world; an orphan, an odd fit, a marginalized area, which is part of what makes it interesting." - Rob Kovitz

Beginning with a selected display of book works from the Also As Well Too collection, we will explore the indefinability that defines artist books, discuss ideas about how these unique artforms create opportunity and subvert expectations in the art world, and encourage the creation of new titles. The making portion of the workshop will encourage diverse and varied works. Examples include book modification, basic saddle stitching, paper folding, using found materials, etc. Supplies will be provided, but participants are also encouraged to bring materials they might like to work with.

The artists running the workshop will be creating alongside workshop participants to generate an environment of fun and vigorous production. Also As Well Too invites artists to submit titles from their own collection of artist books as well as their own creations to live (temporarily or on a more permanent basis) in the Library's collection in Winnipeg so that many people will have the opportunity to see them.

The book making workshop is FREE & open to the public. Participants are asked to RSVP via programming(at) by July 21st at 5:00 PM

The Wandering Albatross tour is a conglomeration of presentations with language-based expressions at their heart, with the ultimate intent to bring new audiences to different ways of experiencing art than are usually on offer. Participatory, performative, informative, and illuminating (collections), the Tour will make stops in Calgary, Lethbridge, Edmonton, Brandon and Winnipeg.

A performance with TRUCK's CAMPER & Ray Fenwick will follow, more information on the performance can be found here!

Le Moat Juice, a group of short, inter-related performance works somewhere between experimental comedy and performance art. The pieces that comprise Le Moat Juice focus with an absurd intensity on attempts to communicate with others, with one’s self and with the divine. If masterful communication can show us the heights of human potential, then Le Moat Juice can, haha idk etc etc.
